In the downtime of the middle of the college football season, and with college students hard at work combatting their midterms, Gainesville comes alive for the annual harvest season, just as the heat in Florida begins to die down.
Here are the upcoming events for this October:
University of Florida
The Florida Gators have just one home game this month at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Don’t miss the 4 pm game against LSU on October 6thJoin hundred of students from UF for the Fall Day of Service on October 20th at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. October is also a big month for the Gators’ Tennis and Golf teams, with games almost daily throughout this month, there is plenty happening just off-campus at the University of Florida.Get prepared for Homecoming, one of UF’s largest traditions begins on November 2nd, right after the Halloween festivities. Make sure you head out to Gator Growl on Flavet Field and get your tickets in advance!

Around Town
The Union Street Downtown Farmer’s Market showcases local vendors and small businesses from the Gainesville-Alachua area every Wednesday from 4 pm to 7 pm. Vendors offer samples of good food with a welcoming attitude to everyone who makes the attempt to park in Downtown Gainesville.
Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo is hosting its annual Boo at the Zoo event from 3-7: 30 pm on October 31st. The zoo will be closed that morning in order to prepare the ten acres of land into fourteen different candy station areas. Also at this event will be a canned food drive, help beat last years turnout of 5,817 cans to help out families in the community through both Gainesville Harvest and Catholic Charities.
Buy a Pumpkin Feed a Child is hosting their annual pumpkin run 5k on October 6th in Depot Park. 100% of proceeds from this event help to feed hungry children in Alachua County and Central America.
Roger’s Farm is all set up for Fall festivities, with their ten-acre corn maze, zombie paintball and rock wall among the festival. The family-owned farm has been operating for thirty years and will continue its annual events with its new owners as of March 2018.
