Best Things to do in Atlanta

Atlanta is preparing for the holiday season, as well as rounding off Fall semester at Emory. Catch basketball games and art exhibitions on campus, or see tree lightings and Christmas markets begin to appear around town.

Here are some of the events that you definitely do not want to miss this November in Atlanta:

Emory University

The college basketball team are currently on a three-win streak and have two home games this month, as part of their Thanksgiving Classic. The first game is against Maryville, Tennessee on November 24th, with the second game the following day against Randolph-Macon.

Oxford College is celebrating the reopening of Phi Gamma Hall on the 13th with opening and dedication remarks from Dwight McBride and Dean Douglas Hicks. After a lengthy refurbishment, the 167-year-old building will reopen at 4:30 pm.

A brand new permanent exhibition is opening on the 19th at Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library; The Spirit Lives On: Art and the Mind. This exhibition is a dementia-awareness exhibition and features storytelling of ten photographs from family members of those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The Oxford Ensemble of Shakespearean Artists will be presenting their production of The Tempest on November 15th, 17th, and 18th in the Tarbutton Theater. Tickets are purchased as donations to the ensemble and all are welcome to attend the production.

Around Town

Atlanta Christkindl Market opens on November 23rd. This open-air German Christmas market on Tower Street is open Wednesday through Sunday until December 23rd.

The annual Thanksgiving race will take place on the 22nd with the beginning and the end of the half marathon and 5k at Georgia State Stadium. More details can be found here.

Vinings Jubilee tree lighting and the Marietta tree lightings will be taking place on November 29th. Entry is free to these events and a great way to get into the festive spirit this season.

The Nutcracker ballet performance begins November 23rd with visiting and performing companies of Northeast Atlanta Ballet, Georgia Ballet dance company, and Roswell Dance theatre at various theatres in the Greater Atlanta area.

The holidays have begun at the Atlanta aquarium with the Festival of the SEAson event happening November 23rd through to the end of the year. Double check the event schedule on the aquarium website to make sure that you can meet Santa Claus and Scuba Claus this holiday season.

Atlanta Botanical Gardens’ eighth annual light show extravaganza is taking place now through January 6th and includes major holiday days, such as Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. Purchase your tickets here to see the gardens lit up in festive cheer.

Stone Mountain Park begins its holiday festivities this month with the opening of the snow angel palace, meet and greets with family favorite Christmas characters, and performances of The Littlest Christmas Tree, A Christmas Carol, and Christmas in the City. Check showtimes and dates here.
