10 Unlikely Things You Appreciate When You Move Back Home For The Summer

I lived in a dorm for the past two semesters. If you read my last two articles I covered both what I will and won't miss about living on campus. Now I thought I would take a moment to realize what I love about coming home beside the cliché and the obvious things that are always mentioned.

1. Showering without shower shoes

This should be regarded as one of the best feelings in the world. Not having to share a shower and wear shower shoes? There's no moment that makes you feel more at home.

2. The smell of home

📷

Everyone's home has a smell, and you might not realize it whilst growing up. Coming home everything just smells like you and just like your childhood.

3. Utter relaxation

📷

Finals? Done. Assignments? Done. No more stress about possibly being fined for dorm damages, no more stress about final grades, no more anything!

4. Dishes being 100% clean

📷

There's something about finally having 100% clean mugs that have been through the dishwasher as opposed to hand washing everything in the dorm kitchen.

5. No slamming of doors

📷

Having doors stay open and no longer slammed - either automatically or by angry/stressed college students - is just part of the overall feeling of relaxation that comes with feeling at home.

6. Voice/accent familiarity

📷

Hearing my mother's voice and accent just makes everything feel like home. Two English accents being reunited with nothing else interfering? Sounds like home.

7. Puppies

📷

It's kind of a cliche thing that is always mentioned in posts like these, however, nothing makes me feel more at home than my puppies running to me at the door and sleeping on my bed every night.

8. Everything is in a place I know

📷

Something about knowing where everything is and everything being in the same place as you always knew is just so welcoming and heartwarming.

9. Merging college stuff with home stuff

📷

Seeing everything I have accumulated since my time at college merge with everything I grew up with, as well as seeing the difference in who I am a year later is so interesting.

Finding out how to organize it all is another thing to worry about, however...

10. Parking on your driveway

Having a definitive parking space is such a relief after the on-campus parking struggle. Pulling up to your house and knowing that that is your own parking space is just an entire culmination feeling of being home.
